The Iraqi army has raised its flag over Fallujah’s government headquarters after making massive gains in the city, amid reports Daech fighters have begun abandoning their posts en masse.
Troops swept through with limited resistance from the militants, leaving Daech on the brink of losing one of the most emblematic strongholds.
"The liberation of the government compound, which is the main landmark in the city, symbolises the restoration of the state's authority", said Raed Shaker Jawdat, Iraq's federal police chief.
