Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Adviser to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and Governor of Makkah Region will patronize here on Friday the opening of Jeddah International Book Fair in Southern Obhur with participation of 440 publishing houses from 25 Gulf, Arab and other countries.
To Mark this occasion, Prince Mishaal bin Majed bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Jeddah and Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the 11-day Book Fair praised Prince Khalid Al-Faisal's patronage of the event which enriches the intellectual and literary movement.
Keenly followed by cultural, academic and media bodies, book fairs are considered one of the most important communication channels between writers, publishers and readers. They also present a unique opportunity to expand horizons and open up new outlets.
Even in the face of digital technology, there's no doubt that books have maintained their number one position as evidenced by the increasing number of visitors at book fairs throughout the region. That's because no matter whether fact or fiction, cultural, academic or frivolous, nothing can compare with the appeal of a good book.
